The aims of the Oral Cancer Prevention SIGs are to:
- Bring together EADPH members with an interest in oral cancer prevention in line to the WHO Oral Health Action Plan.
- Explore and discuss the “current state of the art and science” in oral cancer prevention.
- Promote collaboration to promote oral cancer prevention.
- Produce appropriate outcomes such as webinars, position statements, policy documents, scientific articles, editorials, that will prevent the development of oral cancer.
- Support the Borderless Alliance of Early Career Researchers in Head & Neck Cancer which launched in May 2024.
Objectives – Bring together EADPH members with an interest in oral cancer prevention.
Produce a CDH editorial on alcohol and oral health.
Research ideas generated during this SIG meeting to be explored:
• Snus smokeless tobacco (uptake, formulation, marketing)
• Role of community workers in oral cancer screening programmes
• Role of self-examination in early detection (effectiveness data, active component identification)
• Vaping
o Description of regulations across Europe
o Qualitative exploration of young people’s attitudes to vaping
• Implementation research related to tobacco cessation (health technology assessment)
