The aims of the Oral Cancer Prevention SIGs are to:

  1. Bring together EADPH members with an interest in oral cancer prevention in line to the WHO Oral Health Action Plan.
  2. Explore and discuss the “current state of the art and science” in oral cancer prevention.
  3. Promote collaboration to promote oral cancer prevention.
  4. Produce appropriate outcomes such as webinars, position statements, policy documents, scientific articles, editorials, that will prevent the development of oral cancer.
  5. Support the Borderless Alliance of Early Career Researchers in Head & Neck Cancer which launched in May 2024.

Objectives – Bring together EADPH members with an interest in oral cancer prevention.

Produce a CDH editorial on alcohol and oral health.

Research ideas generated during this SIG meeting to be explored:

•  Snus smokeless tobacco (uptake, formulation, marketing)

•  Role of community workers in oral cancer screening programmes

•  Role of self-examination in early detection (effectiveness data, active component identification)

•  Vaping

       o           Description of regulations across Europe

       o           Qualitative exploration of young people’s attitudes to vaping

•  Implementation research related to tobacco cessation (health technology assessment)
